Pastor John Thomason
The theme of our church’s new, updated website is: “Come Get to Know Us.” However, this begs the question, “Why would you want to come?” In a time when organized religion is on the decline, when many people who grew up in the church now identify as unaffiliated, when busy people have a multitude of choices for activities on a Sunday, why would you want to come to the Wethersfield United Methodist Church?
Rather than talk to you like a salesman, I’d like to tell you the reasons I come and why I so deeply value this community of faith – reasons that go far beyond the fact that I was appointed to be WUMC’s pastor two years ago.
I choose to be a part of this church because its ministry is comprehensive and inclusive. Our active membership includes a healthy cross-section of age groups – children, youth, young adults, mid-lifers, and seniors. We are open to all Christians and seekers regardless of denominational background, race, or sexual orientation. Our worship service features a healthy blend of traditional and contemporary elements. Our ministry embodies a healthy balance between reaching inward (caring for our own members, creating a sense of family) and reaching outward (service to the community and mission to the world).
You may have noticed a recurrence of the adjective “healthy.” This is why I come to WUMC. In a diseased, dysfunctional world, this church offers a haven of health. But don’t just take my word for it. Come and see for yourself. “Come get to know us!”
Grace and peace,Rev. John Thomason, Pastor
